Samsung’s next-gen foldable/sliding screens

“This year’s CES delivered the comeback story we’ve all been waiting for: 100,000 people returning in person to get a glimpse of the future of technology, and we were there for it,” said Matt Swider, Founder and editor. leader of Shortcut. “As we sifted through this year’s announcements, the competition was fierce, forcing us to select offerings that truly create ‘short cuts’ with technological breakthroughs in their respective categories.”

Best of the show: LG M3 OLED TV

“Where LG seemed to be putting its true innovative side to work was the incredibly large 97-inch LG M3 OLED TV. Its commanding presence, however, isn’t the innovation – it’s the fact that this TV breaks -neck works wirelessly.(I mean, most of the time. There’s still a power cable, but it runs through the stand so you can hide it.) Goodbye, HDMI.

The LG M3 accomplishes this by placing the innards and ports in a box across the room – up to 30 feet away – and that’s where you’ll put your game console, 4K Blu-ray player and all your other odds and ends. -a-brac electronics. The box then transmits it to the TV using WiFi, or something very similar. Everyone who saw it seemed to be deeply impressed, including us! -Wes Davis

Best Car: BMW i Vision Dee

“BMW’s i Vision Dee combines color-changing iX Flow E ink paint technology with the i Vision Circular concept we’ve seen before. Still, we got a closer look at the dynamic body panel color tweaks that brought the concept a little closer to reality. It’s fitting that the automaker put Herbie on stage tonight, because the rhythmic auto paint jobs and flashing grille couldn’t have reminded me more of the little Love Bug. -Gabe Carey

Best AR/VR: Sony PlayStation VR 2

“Sony’s PlayStation VR 2 headset has renewed my hope for virtual reality. It looks and feels great, and the specs offer something some Sony competitors don’t: eye-tracking on a 4K display at a reasonable price of just $549. -Matt Swider

Stay tuned for a full Sony PSVR 2 review from The Shortcut next month, where we’ll get an in-depth look at how early PSVR 2 games performed.

Best Mobile: Razer Edge 5G with Verizon

“It’s the closest thing to a portable Xbox, and it made me smile at CES this year. The Razer Edge is a portable gaming juggernaut powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 chipset, allowing it to to play all Android games smoothly and stream Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and other cloud games.I’m particularly enamored with the possibilities of Verizon’s Razer Edge 5G, which will make this gaming machine already portable very portable with support for both Sub 6 and Verizon’s ultra-fast mmWave technology. -Matt Swider

Best smart home and network: Asus ROG Rapture GT-BE98

“If there’s a new WiFi standard, Asus is here with something that supports it ASAP, and while the Asus ROG Rapture GT-BE98 isn’t quite the first WiFi 7 gaming router in the world this time…he’s one of the fastest, and definitely the grumpiest.-Wes Davis

Best Computer: Lenovo YogaBook 9i

“The new Lenovo YogaBook 9i is the dual-screen laptop that wants to replace your multi-monitor workstation. Both screens can be stacked on top of each other in landscape mode or aligned vertically and tilted on its side edge , using the included folio as a stand. It was by far the best laptop we saw at CES. -Wes Davis

Best Game: Razer Blade 18

“Leading the pack is the new Razer Blade 18, which Razer claims is the ultimate desktop replacement. It’s a contender to the best 18-inch gaming laptop that will feature the most powerful components on the market. , as well as a giant screen. The larger chassis also enables an all-new cooling solution that allows the Razer Blade 18 to take full advantage of an RTX 4090.” -Jackie Thomas

Best Component: 13th Generation Intel Mobile Processor

“At CES 2023, Intel launched its 13th Gen mobile lineup, and rather than a staggered release, it has chips for every type of laptop on the market, along with new desktop SKUs. The highlight, of course, is the new 13th-gen HX series, which will drive the best gaming laptops of 2023.” -Jackie Thomas

Best TV: TCL QM8

“All the companies had giant TVs to show off this year, but the TCL QM8 really wowed us with its gargantuan 98-inch size. This 4K QLED TV is a Series 6 replacement that has over 2,300 dimming zones and over 3,000 nits of brightness, earning us our pick for Best TV of CES 2023. The QM8 features WiFi 6 – still rare in TVs – and a built-in subwoofer.-Wes Davis

Best Monitor: Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 57-inch

“Samsung’s Odyssey monitors are getting some major upgrades this year, starting with the Odyssey Neo G9. The 57-inch version is an incredibly wide 32:9 monitor with a resolution of 7,680 x 2,160 – essentially half superior from an 8K TV. It uses the Mini LED backlight, so I’m expecting high contrast and good to excellent HDR performance, hopefully with some blooming. -Jackie Thomas

Best Sound: Razer Leviathan V2 Pro Soundbar

“The Razer Leviathan V2 Soundbar takes what was already one of the best PC audio products and enhances it with incredible motion tracking technology that ensures you’re right in the middle of the action. Plus, with its sleek RGB lighting, it will make a great centerpiece for any PC gaming setup.-Jackie Thomas

Best Laptop: TCL RayNeo X2

“The chunky TCL RayNeo X2 might make you look like a near-future Jeff Goldblum, but it might be worth it for all the tech they pack into their weight. Two high-contrast Micro LED displays with up to 1,000 nits of brightness promise to deliver a truly useful augmented reality experience without restricting your style (as long as that style is cheerfully quirky). -Wes Davis

Best Concept: Samsung’s next-gen foldable/sliding screens

“Samsung Display brought magic to CES 2023 with innovative displays meant to change the way we interact with displays. I was shown prototype OLED smartphone and tablet designs that wowed me, offering a interior glimpse of the future The tri-fold screen felt like it was a step ahead of my Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, and tablets with multiple sliding screens automatically enlarged the real estate display just before my eyes. The real star is the Samsung Flex Hybrid OLED, which combines the benefits of foldable and sliding technology in one device. -Matt Swider
