One of the biggest tech shows in the world, CES, opens this week in Las Vegas, Nevada. The show, produced by the Consumer Technology Association, features some of the latest tech offerings from businesses of all sizes.
Here’s a look at the top products showcased at CES 2023.
Smells in the Metaverse
Several companies — including Facebook’s parent company, Meta — have been working on technologies to support a future digital world called the “metaverse.”
The metaverse is a term used to describe a non-physical world in which individuals interact through different types of digital technologies. people would use virtual reality (VR) glasses and other devices to interact with each other in the metaverse.
A company called OVR Technology has released a new wearable device that produces scents or scents, designed for VR technology. In a video explaining the device, OVR chief Aaron Wisniewski said it was designed to copy the human sense of smell.
The device connects smells to things a person can smell in a digital world powered by virtual reality. For example, smelling a flower would cause the device to produce a scent for it. Outdoor environments, like being in the middle of a field, can also be sensed digitally. The device could also produce the smell of tasty food when a Metaverse person walks through shops or restaurants.
OVR Technology claims that their device is capable of producing thousands of different scent combinations. But, he adds, it’s not designed to produce exactly smells found in the real world. Instead, the device aims to give users “a whole new world of possibilities” in digital scent technology.
Wearable VR Vest
The developers of the Skinetic wearable device say it’s designed to help users experience another basic human sense, touch. Skinetic is a vest equipped with 20 small motors designed to produce many different tactile sensations. It is designed for gamers and users of VR technology.
The company said its engineers had “closely studied the sensitivity of the human body” in order to map the vest’s many contact points. This was done to recreate the tactile sensations that can be felt in video games and digital environments.
Electric skates
French startup AtmosGear launched a new pair of electric rollerblades at CES. Company leader Mohamed Soliman told The Associated Press that the skates allow users to travel about 32 kilometers on a single charge.
AtmosGear said the skates are great fun to ride. But the company also hopes they will be used as another means of transport, along with electric bicycles and scooters, which allow many people to get around cities.
A food bag that contains the drums and electrical connections can be worn around a person’s waist. The $500 skates can also run without electricity.
number tattoos
A portable device presented by the South Korean company Prinker allows a person to quickly and easily create tattoos.
The device uses ink to print thousands of existing models, but also allows users to create their own. The device can be positioned on the skin where the tattoo is desired. Tattoos are waterproof but can be washed off with cleanser.
The main tattoo device sells for $279 and enough ink to produce 1,000 tattoos costs $119.
AI for animal health
TTcare from South Korea introduced a device that uses artificial intelligence (IA) to identify early health problems in dogs and cats.
Users take pictures of their pet with their smartphone. Then, the artificial intelligence software closely examines the images for signs of possible diseases and conditions related to the eyes, skin or joints, the company explains.
TTcare said the system software has been tested and approved by the country’s Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
The world’s fastest toothbrush
The creators of the NylonBlack line of toothbrushes showed off their newest products at CES. The company, Y-Brush, claims that the devices can produce thorough and effective brushing in just 10 seconds.
The toothbrush is designed in a Y shape to fit naturally in the mouth. According to Y-Brush, NylonBlack toothbrushes are fast and efficient because each contains 35,000 small brushing tools made from soft nylon.
Battery-operated devices are equipped with vibration technology designed to eliminate plate and other substances without damaging teeth or gums.
