A final letter from PBH President and CEO, Wendy Reinhardt Kapsak, MS, RDN

Dear PBH Partners and Passionate Plant Defenders,

As President and CEO of PBH, I must say THANK YOU. Thank you for your sincere feelings and support as I embark on the next chapter of my career. My heart will always beat strong with the love of fruits and vegetables, and my goal is to pass on my lifelong passion for produce in my next role.

I’ve always enjoyed the quote from Dr. Seuss: “Don’t cry because it’s over; smile because it happened. Being your leader and an advocate for fruit and vegetable consumption has truly been the highlight of my career and will forever represent many of my proudest professional moments. In fact, I can’t help but smile thinking about the many memories and milestones we’ve created together.

I am extremely grateful to all of you for trusting me and my team as we transformed PBH into the first research-driven, consumer-centric philanthropy dedicated to inspiring new fruit eating habits. and vegetables every day. I’m so proud of our accomplishments in making fruits and vegetables easy, delicious and fun for everyone.

Together, we conducted groundbreaking research to identify inspiring and actionable consumer habit-forming strategies, leading to the highly successful and solution-focused Have A Plant.® Movement. We’ve formed innovative partnerships and alliances, doubled the membership of the National Coalition for Fruit and Vegetable Eating, and created PBH’s first-ever influencer network and scientific advisory board. Perhaps most importantly, we have partnered to create National Fruit and Vegetable Month as well as the Lead The Change collaborative consumption campaign to elevate fruit and vegetable consumption to a national priority. You can read more about our collective success in PBH’s recently released 2022 Annual Report. Without you, these achievements would not be possible, and therefore – THANK YOU!

The 2022 White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition and Health has further highlighted the need for the fruit and vegetable community to come together and passionately advocate for innovative ways to ensure that all Americans can enjoy fruits and vegetables on a daily basis. There has never been a more critical time to elevate consumption to the rank of national priority; support efforts to improve accessibility of all forms of fruit and vegetables; and encouraging new, sustainable fruit and vegetable eating habits. We MUST work together to bring more fruits and vegetables to Americans where and when they enjoy meals and snacks – that’s why PBH’s merger with the International Fresh Produce Association’s (IFPA) Fresh Produce Foundation is the right next step for the future of PBH.

With our combined research expertise, stakeholder relationships and knowledge of consumer behavior, PBH and the IFPA Fresh Produce Foundation will create the world’s largest community of fruit and vegetable advocates. The timing is perfect, because collective organizing is poised to advance fruit and vegetable consumption in America and around the world.

I know PBH’s work is far from done, and you will continue to lead monumental initiatives that close the consumer gap. Your PBH team is committed to bringing your vision to life as part of the IFPA Foundation for Fresh Produce through 2023 and beyond. And, of course, don’t hesitate to call on me for anything you might need in the future; you can reach me through LinkedIn, my personal email ( and/or my cell phone (703-862-4070).

As we head into 2023, I have a lot to be grateful for and that includes you and all of your passionate plant advocates in the work you do every day to advance fruit and vegetable consumption. Thank you for your trust, your partnership and your friendship. You have inspired me every day, and I will always be the biggest advocate for fruits and vegetables, and all of you. When I look back on my time as President and CEO of PBH, I will always have a smile on my face.

Best wishes for a happy and healthy new year and many opportunities to #have a plant,
